Should I get a stronger TCA peel or stay at 10%?

I got a TCA peel 4 days ago that was 10% strength. I have not experienced any horrible peeling, however, my skin is a bit tight and dry. I am African American golden brown color (yellow undertone). I have heard of TCA peels not being for "ethnic" skin so I was hesitant to even get this done. The aesthetician at my derms office said that to get results I would need the TCA peel and that we would need to go up 20%. I am not sure this is wise based on what I have seen as a result of my research.

At our practice we recommend VI Peel which is FDA Approved for all skin types.  The main active ingredients are TCA, Phenol and Retinoic Acid which is safe for all skin types. Typically, patients with skin types IV-VI respond positively to 4% Hydroquinone therapy before and after chemical peels especially if even pigment is what you are desiring.In addition, to the extent that you 'peel' is more of the patient gauging the experience of the side effects of the peel (peeling) as opposed to assessing the RESULTS and efficacy of the peel.  Generally, a follow-up appointment is recommended around two-four weeks after treatment.  Using before/after photos is a great way to gauge the outcome of more medically oriented chemical peels such as the VI peel and in general patients are super happy with the result.  We usually recommend one to two peels a year during fall and spring.We use a team approach to care for our patients so depending upon your in-depth goals and objectives I may recommend you see our medical aesthetician.
