Can you re-deviate your septum by hitting yourself in the face?

Question

I had a septoplasty and turbinate reduction at the end of December 2016. 4 weeks ago I was fixing the couch cushion and slipped and hit myself full force in the nose. Since then, I have had a lot of PND and a constant cough. I'm really worried I could have potentially messed up something but not sure if I could be overreacting. I've been taking allergy medicine for my slight allergy I have but no help.

Hello Tjenkins87,If you have repeat trauma to your nose after an original septoplasty, especially soon in the post operative period, you can redeviate your septum.  I'd recommend you see your surgeon to be evaluated if you think this has happened.I hope this helps and good luck.

Dear tjenkins87, I would suggest seeing your surgeon for a follow up examination. You can cause a deviation to the septum with trauma as you describe so an in office intra-nasal evaluation would provide a diagnosis. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
