Do I need to wear my compression band all day and all night?

I do not routinely use compression bands in my breast augmentation patients unless there is concern (based on tissue characteristics or immediate postop appearance) that the patient will be slow to settle. I place the band under the arm pit across the uppermost aspect of the breast mound. I want the patient to feel gentle pressure and to be able to place two finger widths beneath the band without much effort. I do have the patient wear the band as much as possible (including overnight) until the implant appears settled (possibly several weeks). It is important to note that plastic surgeons have their own opinions about the use of exterior compression or molding. Please check with your surgeon for specific instructions for you.

In my opinion these bands are useless, ridiculous, lack any scientific evidence, are a risk of implant extrusion and a torture for the patient, it is unbelievable that still colleagues recommend such devices.

Most likely, there is a good reason for you to wear a compression band, so I would wear it day and night. Furthermore, I would expect that you'll need it for a matter of just a few weeks. Sometimes they are a little uncomfortable, but they're for your own good... and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck!

I do not use these bands at all.  If it is uncomfortable ask the plastic surgeon.  They are certainly not essential to healing.

The question you asked should only be answered by your plastic surgeon.  Please call him/her to clarify.  Someone should be on call even over the weekend.  Good Luck.  

Hey Danielle, thanks for your question. I would check you "post-op instructions" that your PS gave you. I bet the information is covered in there. Not every surgeon uses bands and for those surgeons that do, most have a different protocol. If you cannot find the info in your post-op instructions, I would wear the band 24/7 until you can call the office Monday. Best of luck!

As you can tell from the answers, there are many opinions on compression bands after breast implant surgery  You should follow your surgeon's specific instructions.  I personally do not use bands routinely so I can comment on what your surgeon wanted.  Best to call their office and ask. In general, they should not be uncomfortable.

This is a question you need to ask your PS who performed your surgery as we each have different protocols for breast augmentation  aftercare.

Thank you for the question.  All surgeons have different post op protocols.  I recommend my patients after sub muscular breast augmentation wear a breast strap for approximately 2-4 weeks full time until the implants drop. I recommend that you contact your surgeon to review your post op instructions.  Best of Luck. 

Postoperative instructions are generally covered before your breast augmentation surgery. Your surgeon's postop protocols should have been discussed or provided for you in your surgical paperwork. Not all plastic surgeons recommend the use of compression bands after the placement of breast implants. So, it would be best to call your plastic surgeon to clarify the use of your compression band.
