Allergic to topical silcone gel?

Has anyone experienced allergic reactions to topical silicone gel? Seems to be causing my scar and surrounding skin to be extremely red and irritated. Are they any other effective topical options that would work similar to silicone?

You may have been allergic to the non-silicone ingredients contained in the product. Some scar medications contain oils and other ingredients. We recommend the Plato's Scar Serum and have not seen any allergic problems. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian

In my clinical experience, the risk of sensitivity to topical silicone gel is minimal. You most likely are experiencing sensitivity to adhesive associated with topical silicone gel application. This may be confirmed if you have experienced sensitivity to application of bandaids.

It's probably not the silicone gel you are allergic to but the adhesive component that allows it to stick to the skin. This is a more common, but unfortunate, contact allergy. You should stop using the silicone gel pads and contact your treating office to see if there are other options they recommend.
