I saw Dr. Ting for the first time on August 12th. The wait time was about 20 minutes and Dr. Ting saw me for about 15 minutes. He diagnosed my adult acne as hormonal and my back acne as a possible yeast infection. I was prescribed several medications and Dr. Tings skin line. I went to the back waiting room. I asked their opinion on the tinted moisturizer vs the ‘regular’ one. One girl answered and when I asked a second question the young lady refused to answer and told me to ask the girl I was talking to. It was really rude to the both of us. But hey I came here for clear skin! I made my purchase and used his face wash and Spironolactone/dapsone cream that night. The next morning I used the same face wash (sulfur) and vitamin c pads and his tinted moisturizer immediately I saw great results! I have suffered with acne since I was 13 years old I’m now 29 years old. My face was clearest it’s been in a very long time. But then I formed a rash on my chest which had never broken out before. I started the rest of the oral medication two weeks later just to monitor my reactions. My face is very dry and he prescribed hydrocortisone cream only 2-3 a week. It’s now September 9th my face is not as clear as it was the first week but that’s okay because I had expected to purge and I didn’t thank goodness! But my rash on my chest is getting worse. I rescheduled my appointment so that I’ll come in earlier in about 6 days. I’m hoping they can figure out what the itchy rash on my chest is about. I wouldn’t mind staying on this same regimen if this was sorted out. I’ll add more pics at the second and third month since this will give a better idea if it’s working or not. I’ll update everyone soon! Good luck to you all on your journey to clear skin
Finally getting the results I want. I've spent over 15k on trying to fix my acne scars with ematrix lasers, peels, and micro derm. Nothing really helped much, I finally went on accutane last year and my face totally cleared up! Not one breakout! I wish I tried it earlier in life instead of in my 30s. I had to wait an entire year before I could do any lasers or procedures on my face. Finally a year to the day I scheduled my first subcision. I did a subcision procedure followed by picosure laser. My results are amazing after just the first and I'm really happy with it. I went for my second dual procedure last week and I can already see a major difference. I'm scheduled for another subcision+picosure laser in 5 weeks followed by 3 picosure lasers 6weeks apart.
Terrible dark circles under my eyes, and my eyes were starting to fall, creating a hooded eye i didnt care for. I got injections for the tear troughs, and a little in my nasolabial fold and lips. Restylane has given me back a more rested, natural look, and dysport has not only eliminated crows feet and brow lines, it's lifted my eyes. very happy with outcome, thanks to Dr. Ting.
I had a consultation with Dr Ting when I wasn't quite ready to spend the money but now I am ready to go back. I drove 1+ hours to see him since he's got such a great reputation and went to him for several different issues including acne, large pores, a few ice pick scars and fine lines. He took the time to sit with me and educate me about all the options and ended up diagnosing me with hormonal acne and prescribed Tazorac, Aczone & Spirolactone (oral). He also helped me with my hair loss. Damn hormones. LOL! Now I am finally financially ready for list of treatments he advised me on! Yay! Can't wait to go back.
A few years ago I got serious about my fitness - I work out 3-5 days a week, eat healthy 80% of the time but I just could not get my stomach flatter or my thighs better! I've done squats, crunches, step ups - I joined a gym, have a personal trainer and yet.... so I went to see a doctor about some fillers and spied the info about Coolsculpting. Two months and several questions later... I took the plunge. The office is great, all the staff is very nice and the Dr. always comes in and discusses with me what is being recommended. they respond via email or phone right away and made sure I got all the answers that I needed. There was one thing that was frustrating to me, my first assessment, the nurse said 6 cycles, doctor came in and said 8, then I got estimates for 8-10 cycles. I was like...Umm... hunh?? I went with 10 just in case but have had 8 to date. On June 17th I had 4 cycles: small applicators one each on inside thighs, then one each on the flanks. It took 4 hours (1 hour each cycle). I was afraid to get the abdomen because I was going to a friend's wedding that Saturday and I didn't want to be swollen or in pain. The doctor assure me I would be ok but said if I wasn't sure that I should just get the inner thighs and flanks done first. It was the most uncomfortable the first 1-5 minutes then after that it was just annoying to have to lay there. I read, did a few word puzzles, listened to music but I couldn't sleep. The staff kept me warm and checked on me regularly; they took my blood pressure 3 or 4 times, checked my vitals to make sure I was doing ok. Putting that cold sheet on me before the applicator was probably the worst part, because it was so cold! Or having to lift up a leg and have the gals all up in my business to attach the applicator to my inner thighs...but the massage was fine, I had small sting of pain for just about 5 minutes afterwards as I warmed up but nothing else. A few bruises on the flanks, itchy skin, some numbness on the flanks but I had no other pain or discomfort. I had my upper and lower abdomen done in 4 cycles on 07/03 and had the same experience. No bruising, no pain and as of today, I still have some numb spots but I've worn my regular clothes and no discomfort that was disruptive. Now, the reviews all say that it takes like 2 months so right now its too soon but I have to say I'm nervous. I wonder if I paid for nothing like when I tried Velashape. I'm drinking lots of water, I have been working out regularly but I do find myself looking in the mirror and seeing. Sometimes I think I see a difference in the flanks but...not sure. I have it flagged for me to check again in Mid August to see if there is any difference. If there is I'll post an update and pics. Overall - I was really terrified of the other posts that talked about swelling, pain and problems for weeks but I had minor discomfort, it was annoying to be stuck at the doctors for 5 or 6 hours but I am hoping that this wasn't a waste of money. Updated on 5 Aug 2015: I had my last 2 cycles this afternoon, the back flanks. I had my inner thighs and front flanks done in mid June, my upper and lower abs done in July and this is my last 2. The procedure itself was cake compared to 4 cycles each time previously spending 6-7 hours at the office, this time only 2 1/2. I got to lay on my side while they put on the REALLY COLD WET cover before she placed the applicator on my markings. The first 5 minutes is really the worst as the machine sucks up the fat and you feel a pinch and the heaviness of the applicator. Then it's uncomfortable while its doing its freezing thing. After that - its just annoying to have to lay still, and stay in one position for an hour. The brick of lumpy flesh that comes out and has to be massaged back is creepy looking but when they are done with the massage its all back down. There is another 5 or 10 minutes where all that frozen flesh thaws out - there is some discomfort and tingly pain there but...that's... it. As before the office staff is very professional, nice and accommodating. They carefully explain everything, mark the spots, take my blood pressure and temperature and checked on me every 30 minutes. I had a camera on me so they could check as well as a call button if I needed anyone. Dr. Ting took a few moments to talk with me in between cycles, to see how I was and came in during one to give me an assessment on my request related to fillers which led to my comment about how badly my face has broke out. He wrote up a regimen for me to clear that up, gave me some input on fillers and said he'd see me in a couple of weeks at the follow up. Additionally, since I had indicated that I wasn't so far impressed with the Coolsculpting results Dr. Ting is offering me Vasershape on all the areas I got treated on free of charge so that we can get the best results. That was super super appreciated and I am looking forward to this in a couple of months. I added photos from today. No updates on the abs, thighs or flanks. I'll wait to do an update in a couple of weeks. Then it will be 2 months for thighs, upper flanks, 1 month for abs and a couple of weeks for back flanks. Updated on 10 Aug 2015: OK so it's so weird but I had my rear flanks done this past Wednesday, so not quite a week. This is honestly the most uncomfortable I've ever been with any of the procedure! I kept reading that the abdomen was the worst but I didn't have any issues. I'm not in pain, but I have to say - clothing bothers me, and there is discomfort in my back around the area. I take an Aleve once or twice a day and that takes care of it, it isn't anything major but wow.. I am super suprised! Very slight bruising on the left side, and tender still. Who would have thought! I'll take photos this weekend to check any progress on my abs, and thighs. Too soon for the flanks. Updated on 29 Aug 2015: Had my follow up - it's been almost 3 months for thighs and flanks and two months for abdomen . I'm not real thrilled so far - especially since that means I'm supposedly half way there and with no difference ... I'm thinking this wasn't worth it. Unless something drastic happens then this was not a good investment Updated on 20 Sep 2015: So back in mid June I had my inner thighs and my upper flanks Coolsculpted. July 3 I had my upper and lower abdomen done and then in August, my back flanks. Maybe I should have done them all closer together, I don't know but ... I gotta say looking at my thighs... yea not seeing anything. I am committed to waiting the full 4 months (which would take me into October/November ) but I am sure hoping to see some better results than what I've got at the moment. This was an investment of my time as well as my money. I spent 6-8 hours at the office each time for treatments which meant being off of work. I've continued to work out and eat well. I'll update the pics in October too. Updated on 6 Nov 2015: So... I did what I was asked and its been the full 4 months for treatment on the "major" areas I wanted to see improvement (thighs and stomach). Very disappointing for the time and money I spent on this. I've seen other posts and maybe you have to be a certain person to get results, I certainly did not. I rescheduled my "official" 4 months at the physicians office due to a conflict but at this point, its just a check in for me because I do feel its been a waste of my time and money.
Was looking for something to lift lower face, sagging jowls but not ready to do anything surgical just yet. I had the lower half of my face and neck done (two areas, price-wise) All of the literature and doctors say it has minimal downtime, slight swelling and occasional bruising. I'm 2 days out and am pretty beaten up, can't go to work. I am returning to doctor today to have them run a laser over the bruises, they say it will speed healing. I was not prepared to be in this condition, it definitely put a dent in my plans. Beware, it is not a lunchtime procedure, it is extremely painful and can leave significant marks. It isn't the same outcome for everyone but they do downplay the process. I'm pretty bummed about the way I look right now, will be hiding out for a few days. I will post update once bruising and swelling fade to see if the results are worth it. The doctor told me it will take 3 months to see anything, the technician said 8-12 months. Updated on 15 May 2015: returned to doctor's office twice to have the V-Beam laser treatment to fade bruises. Not sure if it made any difference at all. Updated on 20 May 2015: its been about a week and a half, bruising has finally faded. I did find a spot under my chin that appears to be a burn mark, luckily it is hidden but I'm going to have the doctor check it out. Still some swelling in neck and under chin area, very sensitive to the touch. I've been icing it at night. Can't tell if its the absence of swelling or if things are tightening up. Cheeks look more toned, less sag/wrinkles around the mouth. Twinges of nerve pain throughout the day along jaw, like a sharp poke of a pin. Updated on 1 Jun 2015: It has only been 3 weeks, I still have numbness under my chin and skin is still very sore on neck, feel like a sunburn. I believe i still have some swelling as my double chin looks more pronounced and my neck skin looks horrific, like a turkey! What's up with that?! (see photo) At this point in time, my neck looks much worse than before the procedure, but one can't tell the results until the 3 month mark. Wearing scarves and crossing fingers that things are under construction until then. Updated on 27 Jan 2016: The plusses of Ultherapy are that it gave my cheeks and jawline a small lift, my face appears a bit thinner/angular. I started noticing this around 4-6 months after. Under the chin is still a saggy double chin and the neck is exactly the same as before the procedure. As painful as it was and given the reaction I had, its doubtful that I would ever do it again. I didn't bother posting "after" photos because there really isn't a noticeable difference. I'm sure a lower face or neck lift is a future possibility, better start saving my pennies now!
I had my first subcision and laser genesis treatment today at a dermatologist office. I had deep acne scars (combination of ice pick and boxcar) for over 10 years on my forehead and cheeks. These scars have caused me to hide from mirrors and sun light. I was nervous about the subcision since it's entitled inserting a needle into my face to release the skin from tissue. But the procedure was painless because the staff did a wonderful job in numbing and icing my face first. It feels likes tiny pinches where the needle was inserted. I did bleed at some of the area where the needle was inserted but the nurse put pressure on the area and the bleeding stopped with 5 minutes. I'm writing this review 4 hours after the procedure and I am starting to see the bruises which I expected. I'm the type of person who bruise easily even though I stopped taking my vitamin E pills and eating fish for the last 2 weeks. After the subcision, I did the laser genesis to boost the collagen and reduce my pores size. The laser genesis is basically a heated red light passing through your face. My face was still a little numb from my subcision during my laser treatment so I didn't feel any discomfort. It was actually very soothing and comfortable. I could smell my skin heated up. My face was a pinkish afterward and I was given SPF to apply to my face before leaving the office. The whole procedure took about an hour. 20 minutes for numbing, 20 minutes for subcision and 20 minutes for laser genesis. I am happy with the service from the dermatologist office. The staff that I saw all have beautiful facial complexion. I think the Doctor is taking care of his staff too :) I'll post my progress with the treatment. I still have one more subcision and two laser genesis treatments as recommended to see result. Updated on 18 Sep 2014: The bruising from the subcision are finally gone after 2 1/2 weeks. I would say the scars improved about 50% and the skin texture is smoother on my forehead only. The rolling and pit scars on my cheeks didn't change at all. My cheek is more uneven then ever because I breakout with lots of whitehead 3 days after the procedure. I had two or three acne on my cheek before the procedure but now I'm just confuse where are these whitehead come from. These are stubborn whiteheads that will not go away. I was hoping after my bruising subsided the whitehead will go away too but nope, it still here and more noticeable. I'm waiting for another 2-3 weeks to see if there is any improvement on my breakout before I decide if I want to continue the recommended treatment (which is one more subcision and 2 more laser genesis). Updated on 11 Nov 2014: After seeing my dermatologist, my whiteheads were caused by my hormones. I thought I was over with the hormone causing acne but guess not. The doctor gave me oral and cream medication. I've been using it for over a month now and the whiteheads are almost completely gone. Well, it has been over 2 months since my first subcision and laser treatment. I could see that my scars on my forehead has improved about 75% and my cheeks about 30%. Last weekend, I saw my dermatologist again and he told me there is a new treatment with quicker result for acne scars called PicoSure. I'm thinking about this procedure now. It was just approved my FDA in August 2014 for treatment on Acne scar and has high success rate.
The staff at the clinic are very nice and friendly. They are being very accommodating to meet the patient's need. I am doing the genesis and spectra. Genesis is pretty comfortable but for spectra, you will need to put numbing cream. If you are suffering from acne and don't want to take accutane, I would recommend you this.
I have not seen a doctor as caring and responsive as Dr. Ting. There are a lot of doctors offering the same services, but I can guarantee service with a personal touch with Dr. Ting. Carrey (PA) is really amazing too! and so is Geri and Elena. He will personally answer all your emails and reply to your calls. The staff is great too! I will always rely on your advise for an skin condition. Regards, Radhika

You may get 20 different answers when you ask 20 board-certified dermatologists regarding best hydroquinone-free topical treatment for melasma. The key is to get an in person consultation where your dermatologist can custom tailor a skin care routine appropriate for your skin type maximizing use of antioxidants including vitamin C, arbutin, Kojic acid, embilica, greentea, etc.
Melasma is a clinical challenge where nature and nurture matter. Your dermatologist should tailor a skin care routine appropriate to your skin type that will help to maximize clinical benefit of whatever modality you choose. Our clinic is a melasma center of excellence in the Bay Area with most comprehensive technology for melasma, even in the setting of ethnic skin including Picosure, Spectra, GenesisPlus, Clear and Brilliant lasers as well as our proprietary LumaBright, an enhanced Melanage vitamin A chemical peel. There is no one best way to treat melasma. Much will depend on your tolerance of downtime associated with LumaBright peel vs. patience required with series of laser treatments.
There is no question that board-certified Dermatologists and not Plastic Surgeons should be the experts that patients with melasma should seek out for clinical assistance. However, not all Dermatologists are comfortable or experienced in treatment melasma of patients of ethnic skin color. During your consultation with the clinician, you should ask to review before and after treatment photos of melasma patients of your skin type if available.
We now have enough clinical data to declare the benefit of MiraDry for underarm excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis to be semi-permanent. On average, 50% reduction of sweating can be experienced with first treatment and 85% reduction with second treatment 3 months later. Histologic studies have demonstrated that once sweat glands have been wiped out, they are not known to regenerate.
MiraDry is indicated for treatment of resistant underarm excessive sweating. Unfortunately, this procedure is not covered by health insurance carriers given fact that there is no CPT code availabe to submit for billing. However, most of my patients with Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account have no difficulty using these pre-tax accounts to pay for medically necessary hyperhidrosis or bromohidrosis (distinct body odor). The out of pocket expense varies from $3000 to $4000 depending on your area but the key is to select a MiraDry physician who can maximize medical therapy for hyperhidrosis as well as one who is competent and committed to take care of uncommon but possible post-treatment complication.
