I'm 29yrs old and have had two kids over the last two years. I've NEVER been a "healthy" BMI my entire life, and I've always been active, including seeing a trainer 3x a week. I'm 5'6 and weigh 220lbs. Other than having a BMI thats considered obese, I have no other health concerns. my most recent pregnancy i did have preeclampsia, however ive changed my lifestyle majorly and have maintained that for over a year. will a surgeon take me?

Answer: BMI too high At 5'6 and 220 lbs, your BMI is 35 which puts you in the obese category, as you already know. I recommend you begin with something safe such as liposuction. 10 lbs can safely be removed during 1 session of liposuction and the sessions can be repeated if needed. I also recommend you begin a low fat diet, core exercises such as sit-ups, planks, pilates and start wearing a compression garment. Once you get down to a BMI of 32 which would correspond to a weight of 200 lbs then you can consider abdominoplasty with mesh reinforcement, if you are not planning future pregnancies. The mesh creates a more hourglass figure by compressing the abdominal wall resulting in early satiety and helps maintain a reduced weight. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: BMI For elective plastic surgery it is recommended that a patient have a BMI of 30 or under. Those above this threshold have a higher risk of complications such as poor wound healing, seroma, and infection. The lower BMI also allows your surgeon to optimize your results. Though there are other health factors considered in addition to BMI in determining if someone is a candidate for a Mommy Makeover, weight loss would improve your chances of candidacy, lower your risks, and improve your results.
