Breast Augmentation Scars Lumpy A Year and A Half Post Surgery - can this be improved? (Photo)

After a breast reduction and lift with augmentation, the incisions go through a longer and more complex healing process, we typically tell patients the most of that tissue remodeling phase happens around the 6 month mark to well past a year, and areas that experienced inflammation or infection early on are more prone to developing thickened or lumpy scar tissue. The good news is that this doesn’t mean anything is wrong, and it doesn’t look concerning based on your description. Scars can stay firm, raised, or uneven for many months as they mature, and squeezing or manipulating them can make them look more inflamed in the moment.
There are several effective non-surgical options to help smooth and soften scars like this. Steroid injections can reduce inflammation and flatten thicker areas, and microneedling can improve texture and help the scar blend more naturally with the surrounding skin over time.
I’d recommend having this evaluated in person so a provider can confirm what type of scar you’re dealing with and tailor the treatment. In most cases, these scars do improve and become much less noticeable with the right approach.

In your case, a conservative treatment using topical injection of corticosteroid and application of silicone tape may be the best way to improve appearance of the scars. Surgical correction should be left as a second option. Good luck.

You should be able to have that revised, cleaned up under local for a thinner, less visible scar.

At a year and a half since surgery you can consider scar revision if desired. Basically the current scar is removed and replaced with a new incision. The hope and expectation is the new scar will heal more favorably. This can often be performed under local anesthesia in the office surgical suite. I've included a video I hope you find helpful
