Crushed cartilage grafts can be removed through an external (open rhinoplasty) approach. This should only be attempted by a surgeon who is skilled in revision rhinoplasty, as it is a more difficult operation than a primary rhinoplasty.

Through an open rhinoplasty approach, crushed cartilage grafts can be removed or modified as needed. They are now a unified mass of scar and cartilage but that makes the amenable to shaving or removal.

Crushed cartilage often integrates into the tissue that it is placed on. It may be difficult to completely remove it all in one piece, but it probably can be shaved or removed to create the desired final result.
