10 days post op Vaser lipo, I still have tumescent fluid. Any suggestions?

Hello, judging from what you have written it seems like a seroma which has opened up through one of the incisions. The fluid draining out is better, rather than it collecting inside. I agree its a bit of a bother as it wets the garments. I usually advise my patients to apply a little extra pressure in the form of a belt following the drainage of the seroma. This helps in reducing the dead space for fluid collection.I would suggest you visit your plastic surgeon for an opinion. I am sure he will be able to sort out the problem soon. All the best.

Liposuction causes a substantial amount of swelling.The tumescent solution used during liposuction is absorbency in the first day or two.Part of the fluid in the swollen tissues is your own fluid, and part of it is remaining tumescent solution.  Drainage after liposuction is common for a few days.This is more likely if incisions are left open.It is quite common that one or two openings will drain longer than other ones.At times, drainage continues for a week and sometimes longer.It's better that the fluid leaks than accumulate as a seroma or fluid buildup.At times, patients will have a seroma or fluid buildup that needs to be drained.This has been shown to be more common with the use of VASER liposuction.Please contact your plastic surgeon to see what he or she thinks about your situation.Best of luck, Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
