6 months post-op - What is this white stuff coming out of healed stitches? (Photos)

Question

Hi I had a breast reduction on dec 21 2021, I am fully healed and feel fine I noticed two of my stitches were raised and when prodded/squeezed, white stuff would come out . I went to the doctor and she said its fine and to squeeze it out and gave me topical antibiotics. Its been about a month and theres still white stuff coming out of the stitches “holes” kind of like a pimple. they were dissolvable stiches. so im wondering is it fine or is something wrong thank you

It sounds like a suture coming to the surface. Doesn't sound like anything to worry about.   Check with your surgeon again and have him/her take a look. Best wishes!

An exam is needed to know for sure, but you may have a suture knot that is coming to the surface.  Typically these can be clipped and removed in the office and then they heal quickly with minor home treatment.  Contact your surgeon's office for a visit.

Sometimes dissolvable sutures do not go away completely especially at the location of the knot.  The knots can make their way through the skin, and it can come with whitish drainage.  You made the right decision to see your doctor with your concerns.  I would recommend continuing to follow-up with your surgeon and make sure that you do not have a cyst there that would need to be surgically removed.

It sounds like you developed a suture granuloma from the dissolving sutures. Based on the pictures you provided and your description, I think it is just dissolving suture material. Keep an eye on it and if it gets worse or does not settle down go back to your surgeon
