I am 50, menopause since last year, under finasteride 2.5 plus many vitamins for more than 6 m I want to know if in your experience Viviscal is useful or makes some effect for androgenic hair loss ? With the vitamins I am taking I see baby hair but only in the first line of hair and not further back. I wanted to know if with viviscal i could see any improvement in the whole scalp Thanks
Answer: Hair Loss -- PRP, Progesterone, Stem Cells/ACELL, Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUE), Spironolactone or Finasteride, Rogaine Thank you for your question, This needs an in-person evaluation. I suggest seeing a hair loss expert now to evaluate and go over your condition and provide you information about your best treatment options. There are great non-invasive options like prp/progesterone and/or hair transplantation. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Viviscal for hair loss There are numerous options available to patients with regards to medical hair restoration. It is best to think of them not as first line or second line treatments but adjuncts to each other. There are non-prescription grade therapies as well as popular pharmacotherapies (Minoxidil and Finasteride). PRP and light therapy also play a role. I usually, recommend that patients begin at the lower end of the spectrum and add as needed. There are numerous supplements (such as Viviscal) and shampoos/conditioners and topicals which have shown promise as an entry point or maintenance therapy. Rogaine and Propecia have become mainstays but due to side effect profiles are further up the ladder. PRP and low level light therapy are slightly more invasive but growing increasingly popular. With regards to your specific question, Viviscal can be viewed as an entry point. Supplements are helpful as a source of substrate for hair growth. That being said, a healthy balanced diet should provide the vast majority of what your body needs for hair growth. As a woman with hair loss, it is advisable to see a physician and undergo an endocrine workup as hormonal imbalances are commonly associated with thinning in women. If untreated, Viviscal is unlikely to make a difference. As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS) with experience in hair restoration.Donovan Rosas MD Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery Member: American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, American Society of Plastic Surgeons RealSelf Top 100 RealSelf Hall of Fame
