There are many ways to treat brown spots on the face. One of the best and fastest is with lasers. The type of laser, and the cost, depend a lot on what types of brown spots you have. If you have a lot of sun induced freckles, the IPL or Fraxel might be a good option. Cost could run anywhere from a few hundred to over a thousand - so it is very difficult to know without an evaluation. The whole face can be treated in one day, but often, for brown spots, more than one treatment may be needed.
Hi Laura,The cost will depend on the laser used and the extent of your brown spots. Also, if there is any melasma present this can change the approach and cost. We have over 40 lasers/devices in our practice so we have every option, including Fraxel Dual, q-switched alexandrite, 5 different IPLs, a ruby laser, Fraxel repair, Picosure, Spectra, and others. Consultations in Southern Cal are free in most offices, so you can get an exact cost. If you want to see a live treatment for brown spots, go to You Tube and search "Dr. Groff brown spots" and watch video. This can be done in one day and shouldn't leave any marks. Take care, Dr. Groff
Your question is difficult to answer because it depends on the type of freckles, which laser is used, and how long it would take. There are so many different ways to even skin color. Some of these treatments can be done in one day, or may require a series of treatments. Usually the brown spots get darker for a week or two and they gradually exfoliate off. You could wear makeup to hide it. The pricing could be from $500 on up, again depending what laser would work best for your needs. I'd recommend seeing a laser surgeon for a full consultation and get an estimate.
The most cost effective treatment you may want to consider is an IPL (intense pulsed light) such as Lumecca. For the whole face, intense treatment, we usually charge about $350. This can significantly reduce but not totally remove all freckles. Because freckling is caused by grouping of melanocytes and sun exposure there is no permanent cure for freckles outside of total sun avoidance. It should not leave any marks and can be done in about 30 mins in my experience. The spots will temporarily hyper-pigment, and then flake away over 5-7 days. Makeup can be worn within hours post-treatment.
Thetotal cost of freckle removal depends on a number of different considerations, like the type of laser/treatment used, how many sessions will be needed to seethe results you hope for and the average cost for the procedure in your area.Although you can complete a single session of laser resurfacing in about anhour, usually more than one is needed to see the best results. Again, thisdepends on how dark your freckles are, how many you want removed and so on.Most dermatologists offer laser resurfacing appointments in a package so you’llknow your total before you even start.
The price of a laser treatment is really dependent on which laser or IPL that is being used, the amount of area being treated, and each office's individual pricing. It really can vary substantially based on these factors. For good results most people need 3-5 treatments spaced usually 4-6 weeks apart in which the entire targeted region is treated each time. There are many lasers and/or IPL that can lighten freckles so it is a good idea to have a consultation to see which laser is best to achieve the results you want and make sure that you are a good candidate. Many offices will offer standard pricing per treatment, specials, and a pricing for a package of multiple treatments.
There are several options to improve or get rid of freckles on the face. This can usually can be done in one session. It is best to consult with a board certified specialist who can assist you with achieving the results you seek. 3-dimensional computer imaging can also help you visualize what you might look like afterwards and serve as an important tool for communicating with your surgeon.
