Sore throat and cough after breast augmentation ( 1 week post op)

Question

Good morning , everyone !) I had breast augmentation one week ago, and couple days after that my throat starts hurt and I have light cough because of the raw, scratchy feeling at the back of my throat . I don't have any other flu/cold symptoms , no fever etc. what meds will be safe to treat sore throat ? And how sore throat may affect to breast implants ? How can I figure out that is not an infection in the throat. ? ( sorry for my English)) Thank you !

Thank you for your question, and I am sorry that you are suffering with this sore throat and cough.  As you do not have any other symptoms, I would hazard a guess that this is the result of the breathing tube placed to keep you safe during your breast augmentation procedure.  This should resolve on its own after a couple of days, but any throat lozenge, such as cepacol, should be able to make you more comfortable.  This will not effect your implants or your final results.  Hang in there!

The flu will not have any major affect on your implants. You can treat your flu symptoms with over the counter flu medications or just give it some time. Hi, there.  Sorry to hear that you are having sore throat and coughing.  If you had general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation, soreness of throat is common.  However, 1 week post-op, it should have been better.  You may have upper respiratory infection.  Please vista your primary care physician to be evaluated.  Your physician will able to guide you better on your respiratory problem.  Hope you feel better soon!

If you had general anesthesia the throat can feel sore from endotracheal tube that is used to deliver anesthesia.  It is not infection.  It passes. It has no harmfull effects on breast implants. You can even call your own doctor for such concerns.  Personal touch is more soothing than impersonal input over internet.

Most likely this is caused by the breathing tube placed during your surgery and is commonly noted by many patients. The effects, while troublesome, are temporary and should subside over the next few days. It wouldn't hurt to have your primary care physician check you out to make sure there isn't something else as well. Good luck
