Why does my skin feel so tight when I take my compression suit off?

Swelling, becoming worse after removing a compression garment, is a common issue after Lipo. Your body creates inflammatory fluid after the procedure, and more is released when you remove your garment. If all your wounds have closed (and w your surgeon’s permission) you could try oatmeal baths to alleviate the itching (since it is so important to continue the garment and downsize it when loose). Re: Bruising- avoid NSAIDS, Vit E and anything substance thins your blood.Lymphatic massage and daily exercise will help manage the swelling with a tincture of time: hope this finds you improved!

Dear skinnybutsorry,I understand your concern and it is quite normal to be concerned about the outcome following a liposuction surgery. However, you are still in the very early stages of the healing process.Your will need to be patient at this moment and follow what your surgeon has instructed you to do post operatively.At the early stage of the healing process, the tissues are still swollen. You have swelling, which can last 3-6 months after your procedure. I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. The skin is still healing and feels firm because of swelling and underlying bruising. There are no negative effects of Smart Lipo on skin, it only improves collagen, and can cause tightening in the areas and improve stretch marks. I encourage my patients to get lymphatic massages afterwards, or add something like Venus freeze to quicken the healing process and these modalities complement the procedure well . 

Tightness after liposuction is actually a good sign as one of the complications of fat removal includes being left with redundant skin. bruising in your legs is avoided with compression garments that extend to your legs. If your garment is short, then you can use ace wraps.

you should definitely not be having horrible itching etc. I am guessing that you have a heat rash under the garment. The garment helps with swelling and it helps somewhat with contouring, IF you skin tone is poor. however, i would strongly recommend you stop wearing the garment until your rash and itching resolve. You should also leave it off for at least a few hours per day , to let your skin breath. Also, if your skin tone is good, I don't think you need to use a garment after 5 days. lastly, you should not have that much pain this far out. you should go back for a follow up and see your plastic surgeon (hopefully you used a PS)david berman md

on your recent procedure...The procedure of liposuction is an
"insult" to the soft tissues, resulting in swelling which will
initially totally obscure the operative result. As swelling represents an
accumulation of tissue fluid within the soft tissues, it will tend to
gravitate downward. When in bed, it will be more pronounced in your back,
and when up and around, it will gravitate to your feet. We recommend limiting activities
and practicing leg elevation whenever possible until swelling subsides.
The
purpose of a compression garment is to prevent bleeding and to control
swelling. We usually recommend its use for the first 4-6 weeks after the
procedure. 
60-80%
of the swelling should subside within the first 6 weeks, with the remainder
slowly subsiding over 6-12 months.
Continue
followup care with your plastic surgeon...

Sounds like you have been quite swollen, hang in there.Swelling starts to go down about two weeks after surgery, and will continue main healing over 6-8 weeks typically.And many people still seeing improvement in the skin even a year out!The stiffness and itching are typically.I recommend walking and exercise early on to help mobilize off the swelling faster. It is not typical to need to drain off fluid with aspiration. Follow your surgeons instructions.Best. Dr Brecht
