Thank you for your question.Up to 2/3 of teenage boys going through #puberty develop #gynecomastia due to surges in testosterone and estrogen levels leading to a #hormone imbalance. In up to 75% of boys who developpubertal gynecomastia, it will disappear without treatment within 2 years. In90% of boys with pubertal gynecomastia, it will disappear without treatmentwithin 3 years. If there are no otheridentifiable medical causes, and hormone levels are normal, then surgery might be recommended if they have had gynecomastia for over two years. Please consult a #boardcertified #plasticsurgeon to decide the best treatment plan for you.
Gynecomastia during puberty is common and often diminishes over time. If it is persistent after puberty, there are many safe and effective surgical treatments available. Talk to you doctor and give it more time for now. Good luck and be safe.John T. Nguyen, MD, FACS, FICSDouble Board Certified Plastic Surgeon
The "party line" is that gynecomastia will resolve after adolesence. In many patients this is simply not the case. I do not have any problem with operating on guys at your age if it is causing significant heart ache and problems. You first need to discuss this with your parents and then perhaps you can get a consultation.
Hopefully your gynecomastia will resolve in the nest two to three years. If not then the tissue can be resolved with surgery. Be patient, you will definitely not have to live with this forever. If you have surgery your tissue can be removed with liposuction only or possibly a small counter incision to remove a little fibrotic tissue. The bad scars of long ago are not necessary. Good luck.
Be patient you are still young. Your body is just starting to make hormones and over the next few year will stabilize. A very high percentage of teenagers (approximately 65% plus) will have some degree of this. As you age in some cases this will resolve, if not surgery or liposuction or a combination of the two can improve this for you nicely. The scars are small and can be hidden around the areola. Gynecomastia is common during your teanage years and results from changes in your hormones, i.e. increased boost of estrogen. This can be corrected permanently with surgery which will result in decreased prominence of your breast soft tissue as well as decreased size of your areola.
Gynecomastia develops at puberty and in the majority of individuals goes away on its own by two to three years. If yours has not resolved then you may be a candidate for surgery to correct the problem.Dr. Corbin
You are young. Please talk with your parents or pediatrician about your concerns. Remember that your body is growing and changing every single day. Give it time. Best wishes!
