I have a 4-5 finger gap diastasis recti after three pregnancies and some lower back pain (not sure if that's related). I am about 5'8" and 123 pounds without loose skin or stretch marks. I'd like to avoid a major surgery with scarring to correct my diastasis recti if possible. Would Emsculpt help close my gap (or help bring it closer together)? I understand the muscle tone isn't permanent so does that mean the closing of the gap would be temporary as well requiring maintenance treatments?
Answer: Dr Martin: Could Emsculpt permanently close my diastasis recti caused by pregnancies? Hi depressedgirl, Diastasis recti is a real problem for postpartum women. The clinical studies showed abdominal separation decreased by 19.8% at 6 months after three 30-minute Emsculpt Neo treatments on the abdomen. MRI images were take at baseline, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months post-treatment. 94% of subjects were satisfied with treatment results. Because results were measures at 6 months after the last treatment, the study was not able to affirm that results are permanent. As with anything, maintenance is a good idea in order to keep results. Maintenance can be accomplished with additional treatment sessions or other interventions like exercise and body training. Thanks for the question! Dr. Alonso Martin, MD

Answer: Emsculpt and diastasis recti Hi and thank you for this great question! Diastasis Recti is a separation of the abdominal muscles. It’s caused by the connective tissue at the front of the body, called the linea alba, stretching and thinning. This separation is necessary during pregnancy – your baby needs room to grow! It becomes problematic when muscles separate too far, which it sometimes mds like has happened. Unfortunately all the crunches and planks can't bring those muscles back together (and they can sometimes worsen it!) Surgery can work to repair those muscles; it is the only way to permanently guarantee the muscles will close. The BTL Emsculpt Neo treatment is only non-invasive option that has been shown to shrink diastasis recti. Studies show that the muscle gap can close by 9.5% after just 4 treatments. I f your diastasis is large, it won’t fully close with Emsculpt but it will decrease, and you would be able to avoid a surgery. It all depends on what you’re looking for! Hope this helps!!

Answer: EMSCULPT NEO closes Diastasis Recti There was a 17% reduction in Diastasis Recti- ( any separation over 2 finger) with 4 sessions in studies. The hypertrophy of the rectus abdominus will also help stabilize the CORE. Most muscle hypertrophy was still present at 6 months. Maintenance is recommended for all exercise regimens, so this is no different. I recommend every 3-4 months for optimal strength.

Answer: EmSculpt will Help but wont close the gap. EmSculpt can help improve the diastasis but it wont close it completely. The EmSculpt NEO can provide some skin tightening as well. Maintenance treatments after the initial series may help keep the results.

Answer: Diastasis Recti Emsculpt will not fix a diastasis recti. Their claims are that you may lose a portion of fat and tone/build your muscles. There is nothing about closing a true gap between your abdominal muscles due to pregnancy. Abdominoplasty remains the gold standard for fixing diastasis recti and removing excess skin. Best of luck.
