Microneedling your scalp at home is not safe.  Puncturing the skin in a noncontrolled way may cause trauma and infection.  In my opinion, other procedures have been shown to promote hair growth and prevent hair loss such as epidermal infusion of medications.

Thanks for your question. I do feel that microneedling is beneficial for those who are experiencing male or female pattern hair loss with or without the addition of topicals at the time of treatment. There is only a few studies really looking at microneedling for hair loss and in those studies they utilized a needle length of 1.5 mm. I have not seen any studies that really looked at a comparison of different lengths but I do think there is probably still benefit with smaller needle lengths as 1.5 mm can be quite difficult to tolerate. Other options to help on a budget is topical minoxidil and viviscal, which is an oral supplement I have seen good results with. Both of these can be used in conjunction with the microneedling for better results. Good luck.
