Should concha bullosa be resected in absence of sinus symptoms?

I have been diagnosed with septal deviation, large right concha bullosa, very large left concha bullosa and inferior turbinate hypertrophy. My main problem is nasal congestion when sleeping, esp on the lower nostril when side sleeping. My doctor recommened Septoplasty, Inferior turbinate submucosal resection and Concha Bullosa resection. Given that I never have had sinusitis, should the middle turbinate be touched during the surgery ? It only seems needed for sinus problems, not congestion.

Concha bullosa are simply air pockets located inside the middle turbinates. They can become infected with chronic sinusitis and cause headaches and nasal obstruction and then should be resected. The process of resection is simply unroofing a small area so they can adequately drain, and is not a total resection. More information on sinus surgery please see the link below

You are correct about concha bullosae of the middle turbinate. Concha bullosae are generally treated in patients who have chronic sinusitis. However, in your case, your surgeon may feel it is necessary to treat your conchae in the absence of sinus disease if he/she feels that straightening your septum will result in lateralization of your middle turbinate resulting in obstruction of your sinuses, and ultimately sinus problems.
