Answer: Fat transfer after RF Thank you for the question. I am sorry for your outcome. It is true that many patients are seeing fat loss after RF. At least once a week patients email or call the office to restore fat after RF. The good news is that fat transfer is a great way to improve fat loss after RF. In about 25% of cases, secondary procedures are required. The buccal space and pre-auricular areas appear to be most prone to deformation. I often combine PRP and nano fat to improve the skin and sub-dermal tissue that has scarred.

Answer: FFT Hello, Thank you for your question. Fat transfer would be a good solution. I perform facial fat transfer awake under local anesthesia in my office. I perform it awake in 90% of cases and patients (and I) appreciate being able to do the procedure together – I stop periodically and ask patients to look in the mirror to evaluate whether they want more fat added; we also evaluate asymmetry, etc together. I wish you all the best. Mark G. Albert, M.D., F.A.C.S.New York, NY and Boston, MA

Answer: Finding the right provider This website does not encourage doctors to mention the name of other doctors in our responses. There’s plenty of providers who self promote but it’s unlikely they’re going to stick their neck out and say come to me when the patient presents with a very complicated situation. You’ll need to find the provider yourself unfortunately. Look for providers who do and have been doing a lot of facial fat transfer work for most of their career. Look for someone who has at least 10 years of experience preferably 20.When doing consultations whenever possible try to do exclusively in person consultations avoiding virtual consultations. During consultations ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show their entire collection of before and after pictures. With the lack of host tissue fat graft will not survive normally or you need them. In fact we need the volume and the most it will survive the least. For this reason the best approach is multiple rounds of fat grafting done at 6 to 12 month intervals gradually building up the subcutaneous fat layer. attempting to correct us in a single procedure is most likely not going to lead to satisfactory results. By taking a cautious approach accepting the fact that you’ll need multiple treatments you’ll also get an idea after the first treatment if the provider you chose is heading in the right direction with you. The key during consultations is to pick a part the providers collection of before and after pictures and ask them to show you as many pictures as possible. When it comes to fat transfer always always always confirm how long after the procedure the pictures were taken. Is easy to get very impressive results early after a fat transfer but these are not representative of final results. After pictures have to be taken a minimum of 3 to 6 months after the procedure to represent what the results will look like long term. An experience provider should be able to show you at least 50 sets of before and after pictures. Highly experienced providers will have hundreds. Ask the provider to show you examples of results that are excellent, average and ones that didn’t turn out well. your situation is challenging and even in the hands of the most talented and experience provider it is not an easy job to restore your facial volume. Without host tissue to support fat transfers the graft will not survive well. Look for providers who have an excessive number of facial fat transfer pictures on their websites. Most plastic surgeons stay as general plastic surgeons but some tend to overtime specialize in certain procedures. this usually takes time so those who specialized and mastered anyone in certain procedure tend to have been in the field for quite a number of years. Do the best you can be looking at the website and calling offices to see what they have to say then simply start scheduling in person consultations and continue doing that until you feel confident you found the right provider for you. There are no shortcuts. Finding someone who can do the job correctly requires interviewing a lot of plastic surgeons. I’m sorry this happened to you. It is a very unfortunate side effect of radio frequency treatments. You’re not the first and you will not be the last. In the end the doctor or doctors office who did your treatment is responsible for your outcome. Good luck, Mats Hagstrom MD
