When can I get in a pool after my tummy tuck? (Photo)

I like my patients to wait 6 weeks before swimming, to just get wet in a wading pool I want them to wait until the incision is completely healed. Good luck.

Thank you for your question. The first few weeks are the most crucial as far as formal physical exercise, such  as lifting, pushing or pulling. 6 weeks at a minimum would be advisable to wait. I recommend also waiting about 6 weeks after surgery to submerge yourself into a pool or beach.  Always defer to your surgeon when it comes to timing as well as they will be able to advise you best.  Andrew T. Thank you for sharing your question and photograph. For most patients who have an uncomplicated recovery they can submerge their incisions 4 weeks after surgery. Hope this helps.

If you are no longer in contact with your surgeon I encourage you to establish a relationship with another board certified plastic surgeon near you for post op follow ups. In general I advise my patients they can submerge in a pool, bath, or the ocean after six weeks. This is assuming there are no complications and healing is progressing normally.

In general, you can already swim or wade in a pool four weeks after your tummy tuck as long as your incisions have closed and fully healed.
If you no longer have contact with your reputable and board-certified plastic surgeon, maybe you can post more photos here of your incision so that RealSelf plastic surgeons can evaluate you. Based on the lone photo you posted, I think it’s okay, although more photos would be better.

Hi.  Firstly, I would strongly recommend that you reconnect with your plastic surgeon or another plastic surgeon as you recover from your procedure to ensure that you have both the best possible recovery as well as the best possible outcome from your procedure.  That being said, in general, I allow patients to immerse their incisions in water at 4-6 weeks once the incisions are completely healed and completely sealed.  It is my practice, however, to see all of my postoperative patients at 4 weeks and to visually inspect all incisions myself before I release patients to swim to ensure that their incisions are indeed fully healed.  I cannot determine whether your incisions are completely healed and sealed from the photos you provided as much of the incision is covered.  Once again, I would strongly recommend that you have your incisions examined by your plastic surgeon or another plastic surgeon before you immerse them in water to prevent any harm.  Best of Luck!
