I just had thermocoagulation for veins on my nose. The doctor I liked and has over 35 years experience.

The first thing he told me was, the veins would return. I was really excited about the results, all the veins were no longer visible. Three days later most are visible again. Apparently, the veins healed. He didn't use any pain killer saying it would make the veins less visible and harder to find? I found the hot needle stinging. There must be a more permanent solution? Also, my nose might be getting larger and is red?

The treatment of nasal veins just like spider veins may require several sessions of treatments and they may look worse before they look better.  It is not uncommon for the veins to get darker after treatment.  A topical anesthetic can be used and it is best to apply one hour before the treatment .

We use a topical anesthestic called BLT which works quite well without shrinking the veins - some topical medications contain Epinephrine (adrenaline) which causes the veins to shrink up, so there is a way to make your treatment more comfortable. Unfortunately, these veins tend to be a combination of sun damage (from when you were a teenager) and genetics, so it is something that requires maintenance. Every 2-3 years for most people who have them.
