I have my one week post op (bbl and ba) and later that same day I fly home. My flight is about two hours. What is the best way to sit on the plane and how often should I stand? I am a thin/tall patient
Answer: Best way to sit on plane and how often to stand There are no hard and fast rules on when to fly or how to sit when flying after a BBL. Most would recommend a week or two before flying. This question is best answered by the plastic surgeon who performs you BBL he/she will have his/her own post-op guidelines and will be aware of any complications you experienced during surgery and post-op. The main risk that would be the most serious in sitting on the plane: development of a blood clot in the legs that can then migrate to the lungs. Sitting for long periods of time puts you at higher risk due to being stationary. You need to obtain a letter from your plastic surgeon requesting that the flight attendant allow you to stand when the set belt sign is off, and walk the aisle every 30 minutes. Use your pillow to take pressure off the buttocks and place it on the thighs. Pressure on the fat, etc. are also possibilities. but it should not impact fat survivability provided that frequent breaks from sitting are taken.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Answer: BBL postop Thank you for your question,It is not recommended to sit until after your 2 week post-op mark in order to preserve your fat cells. In addition, the main risk with being stationary for too long is that you may develop a blood clot which could break off and travel to your lungs. This is considered an emergency. Please consult your surgeon for specific post-op instructions if you are concerned. Regards,

Answer: Sitting after BBL Dear Stella8888,I instruct my patients not to sit for 2 solid weeks. We provide them a specialized pillow that our patients can sit on during that time. They can sleep on their stomachs or sides. But every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am. Society of Plastic Surgery

Answer: Post-op BBL & BA: what is the best way to sit on the plane / how often should I stand? Greetings. I recommend patients do not sit with direct contact to a surface for three weeks post-op. During that time, it is possible to sit with something such as BBL pillow/cushion. After three weeks, i allow patients to sit without any restrictions. Your surgeon will have his/her own protocol so ask your surgeon before you fly. Best wishes.
