10 days post Restylane and looks awful. Is this normal. (photos)

Hi @jujubeebo79. Most facial filler products that are injected into this area should ideally be placed in the tissue plane directly on top of the bone, or at least underneath the eyelid muscle layer. If a facial filler product is placed too superficial in the skin, or on top of the muscle layer, the product may settle in with an abnormal appearance and can look to be lumpy, swollen, or irregular. Another reason for the prolonged swelling can be due to the fact that too much facial filler product was used. The filler products that are preferred to treat this area will have some degree of affinity for water molecules so all of these products will exhibit some degree of hydration and swell once injected into the body. Hyaluronic acid facial filler products that were previously injected into an improper tissue plane can be dissolved by hyaluronidase injections. Best of luck, Dr. Nima!

I appreciate your concern. It's too early to judge this as a final result, but I would encourage you to see your injector between 2 and 3 weeks after the injection. Next time, post your before injection photo for a reference. To be honest, I don't see a bad result here and perhaps you need to reconsider your expectations. On the other hand, the blue tint might suggest a bit of a superficial injection. This can always be dissolved, but you may also lose any benefit from the filler. Talk to your injector soon.Good luck. This can be typical after lip filler. I would wait a full 2 weeks before judging the results. If it is after the two week wait, you can have the filler reversed with hyaluronidase.

Thank you for your question. It is normal to have some swelling and bruising up to 2 weeks after injection of the tear trough area. The blue tint you are experiencing may be due to superficial injection (to close to the skin) of the filler. This can be dissolved with an enzyme known as hyaluronidase. I recommend following up with your injector after 2 weeks to address any concerns you may have. Best of Luck!

If you are not happy with your result in another week, please return to your doctor so he can assess your treatment.  You may require more Restylane in some areas and perhaps some dissolving in other areas.

The blue color is probably the Tyndall effect from light scattering but the lumps are probably from uneven injection. if there is no correction in one eye there will not be after this amount of time/ maybe you should seek a second opinion from a board certifiied dermatologist

Restylane is definitely my filler of choice for the undereye area.  Sometimes, some overfill can occur which can be easily addressed with Hylenex injections.  I would return to your injector and ask if they can fix the imperfection.
