Is there a risk of scar tissue and nerve damage?
All patients develop scar tissue and nerve damage from liposuction. The nerves regenerate and sensation comes back to normal within a few months. The scar tissue will soften up and matured over the next couple of months. Risks vary from minor imperfections to death. Realistically liposuction is a very safe procedure with remarkably few serious complications. The most common complication is poor outcomes when the procedure is done by someone who does not have talent or experience. Patients often describe the sensation after having liposuction as overdoing it in the gym when you're out of shape. Patient's describe a certain muscle burn that is the worst in the morning and gets better as you start moving throughout the day. Just like over exercising the pain decreases over the next few days and a week later patients are mildly tender and can generally go back to daily activities. Most patients to start light exercise by two weeks. The recovery varies significantly depending on how aggressive the procedure is being done. For patients who need aggressive liposuction it to get the best results recovery will be a little more intense. Best, Mats Hagstrom M.D.
Hi and welcome to our forum!Vaser liposuction is a safe procedure which allows removal of significant amounts of fat with minimal postoperative downtime. Many individuals return to normal activities in less than one week. Safety is increased if the procedure is performed under local anesthesia. Strict state mandated protocols control the nature of the infusion solution utilized and the amounts of fat that can be removed at one time. Pain is managed quite well with medication. Complications as you describe are quite rare.Set up a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss further.Best wishes...
