Is Korean V Line surgery similar to any American surgery...ie...sliding genioplasty?

So called Korean V-line surgery always includes a bony genioplasty to narrow the chin. It is one of the most important aspects of the procedure. This is then combined with various forms of jaw angle reduction. Contrary to popular perception the intervening bone between the jaw angle and the chin is not usually changed due to difficult access and the location of the mental nerve exit. There is nothing unique about this procedure other than it is far more commonly performed in Asia where the desire to change a wide and prominent jawline is much more commonly pursued. 

Hello and thank you for your question.  V line surgery was made popular in Korea, but they are not the only surgeons who perform it!I do many of the same type of surgery in my clinic in Houston TX.  It is most popular with Asian women and transgender women, but it is available to anyone with a wide jaw that desires a heart shaped face.  Vline surgery has several variations, depending on each patient's bony structure.  Usually I remove the bony angle of the mandible.  This eliminates the boxy or square look from the front.  Then I alter the chin, either moving it down, forward or filing down the edges to make it more pointed. The combination of these moves create a very powerful change in the face.  There are not many surgeons who perform this type of cosmetic bony contouring in the US, but we do exist!  Best of luckDr Rodman
