The lips are a very vascular area and are therefore prone to bruising and swelling. What you describe is significant but not worrisome. Some ice packs and patience will allow your lip swelling to settle in the next few days. Hope that helps. Regards, Adam Goodwin.

The amount of bruising after lip filler is variable. It occurs if blood vessels are traumatised by the needle but also from massaging the lips to flatten or even out the filler. If the area becomes raised, with white marks and is very painful, then it needs immediate attention as the blood flow in an artery might be compromised.

Bruising is common after lip injections and can persist up to two weeks.  It is good to avoid any aspirin, NSAIDS, Vitamin E supplements or other medications that can thin the blood prior to injection.  Some patients find the use of Arnica after injections is useful in helping to heal bruising.

Flat bruising around your lips, nose, and chin that resolves in 2-3 weeks are considered normal after a lip injection augmentation procedure. Injection techniques and injectors knowing their lip vascular anatomy is pertinent and vital to limit post-op bruising. If bruising is extremely dark and black accompanied with an extreme swelling that resembles a bump or a bubble with sharp pain just in one area, then that is not normal. You must contact your injector or go to your nearest Emergency Dept immediately.
