Could these blister/bubbles after Juvederm filler be a cold sore or filler settling? (Photos)

Question

I had Juvederm fillers to help my smokers lines and the nurse also recommended my vermillion border be done as well. I had 1mm injected, the white bubbles I noticed later on the evening, but they still there after 11 days, also small white patches. I've been back to the clinic and been told it's either a herpes reaction or the filler still settling, my lip line is now out of shape! Please can someone tell me if this is normal?

Hi there! Thank you for your question. It could be the filler settling in and I always recommend to my patients to allow 2 weeks for filler to completely settle. If you are still experiencing problems I would recommend revisiting your practitioner.

Hi, thank you for sharing your pictures.
 It may take 
two weeks for the swelling to diffuse if after the two weeks it is 
still asymmetrical, I recommend to dissolve the filler and start again. 
Dissolving the filler will bring you back to your natural state. I 
suggest to see an expert injector around your area to tailor a treatment

Any blistering bubbles that one notes after receiving lip filler Weatherby Jupiter more wrestling typically will have deposits of this material that has not been properly massaged into the lip mucosa. The lip primarily is mucosa with the underbelly being a muscle. Sometimes bleeding from the overlying blood vessels of the muscle can occur creating a hematoma which also could feel modular. If deposits made into the lip mucosa are not properly massage they can develop into a small nodule or cyst that typically can be quite disturbing to the patient. There is no associate relationship with these nodules to cold sores as cold sores produced by the herpesvirus and to my knowledge are not activated by injections of hyuronic acid.

Thank you for your question and photos.I am sorry to hear you are having some trouble with your filler.  Swelling from filler injection can certainly last a week or two but should be steadily improving.You can certainly continue your follow up with them or a see another provider in person.  I’d make sure it’s a board certified plastic surgeon, facial plastic surgeon, or dermatologist that performs injections themselves.What you describe could’ve been a herpes reactivation.  It also could be too superficial/uneven injection of the product.  Unfortunately it’s not possible to really know without examining you in person.Best Dr. L
