Generic implants could give you a nice result, but for how long? Standard chin implants can be problematic, as you well know.
Before you decide to go through the same procedure with a similar off-the-shelf implant for a second time, consider learning more about the differences between custom and generic implants.
One of the advantages of custom implants is that you can design and simulate the exact look you like while ensuring you have a perfect fit, thus making your results safer from complications. The surgery would be smoother, and your surgeon will encounter fewer issues.

For your chin shape goal you simply have the wrong implant style to accomplish it. You have a round chin implant style which is why it looks the way it does. You need a v-shaped chin implant not just a smaller version of what you already have. You either have to hand carve an implant this way or custom design one to achieve that effect. It is very achievable with an implant and you already have the pocket, it just isn't going to be achieved by pulling an implant style out of the catalog.

I would agree with your assessment. The problem with implants is that the shape is not your natural bone shape. Ideally you remove the implant and have a genioplasty which will lead to a more narrow tapered balance.
