A chin implant is performed for patients who have a receding chin. The implant normally gives anterior projection to the chin and jawline but also gives some added width and vertical height, since it is a three-dimensional implant. Chin implants do come in a variety of sizes and shapes depending upon what is trying to be accomplished for the patient. The implants are composed of Silastic, are inserted through a submental incision under local anesthesia as an outpatient surgical procedure.
