Do I need a chin implant or filler? (photos)

Thank you for your question. Since you plan on getting liposuction prior to other work on your chin, it is impossible to accurately assess from this picture what your next steps may be. My recommendation is to first, make sure you are seeing a board-certified facial plastic surgeon with expertise in jaw contouring. Second, talk with them about your goals and desired results - there are both surgical and nonsurgical options for chin augmentation, and a board-certified surgeon will offer you the options that will work for you. Filler will help, but not for very long. The lengthening of the chin will help with the neck lipo as well. If you need some width to your jaw, an implant would help. The BFR will help as well, make everything look better balanced.

It appears that a chin implant would provide improved facial balance and a better cervical-mental junction. I would recommend all of the above procedures be performed simultaneously.

A formal evaluation would be needed to determine what's best. Many of my patients try to avoid surgery, so we perform a non-surgical chin augmentation treatment with injectable fillers. Fillers like Radiesse, Voluma, BellaFill as well as Sculptra are injected into the area, improving the overall appearance of the lower face and balancing the jaw and lip harmony. We use cannula injections to meticulously contour and project the chin, soften the chin along the jawline and improve the chin crease.

Based on these photos, a combination of neck liposuction and chin augmentation would mean significant improvement. Whether chin implant (permanent) or soft tissue filler (temporary) is decision that can be made only on the basis of in person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in chin implants. it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Dermal fillers are the temporary solution but the implant is a permanent solution. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

You do appear to have some recession of your chin and injectable fillers or implants could be used to provide augmentation to the chin. The implant would be permanent, unless it was removed, and most fillers would be temporary. There are a variety of fillers that could be used in the chin area.

Thank you for your question. The answer comes down to how you feel about having an implant and surgery to place it. Fillers are nice because no surgery is needed, and if you dislike the result, it isn't permanent. In this case, since you're having a procedure anyway, an implant may make sense and would give you a lasting result. However, just like any implant, there are inherent risks such as infection or migration. There isn't a right answer, just whichever with which you're most comfortable.

Thank you for posting your photos with your interesting question. A chin implant will help your profile along with submental liposuction. I would need to see a frontal view to see if you have prominent cheeks and would be a candidate for buccal fat pad excision.
