Would a rhinoplasty help correct the upper part of my bridge? Concerned about wrinkles and folds in that area (photos)

Hello! I am a 42 year old African American woman and I have, for over 20 years, wanted something done to correct my nose. My question is if it can be done. I don’t need my nostrils or tip of my nose fixed, I need the part between my eyes corrected. It slopes in and kind of disappears from the side. When I face forward, there’s all kinds of wrinkles and skin folds in that area.

Hi, thanks for sharing this question. The nasal bridge needs to be raised to address the issue you are describing. The best way to do this is providing some support with extra cartilage tissue that can be harvested from the rib. This will help achieve a more proportionate nose with better definition that suits your face. As for the folds between the eyes, raising the bridge will help with that, too. In addition, weakening the muscles in this area helps keep the cartilage graft in place and reduce wrinkling. Therefore, it is advisable to get a Botox injection either 3 weeks prior to surgery, or if that is not possible, 1,5 months post-op. Make sure to consult with a plastic surgeon experienced in ethnic rhinoplasty and thick-skin rhinoplasty. Hope this helps, best of luck!

Yes, it appears that the upper part of your bridge is very flat and would benefit from some degree of augmentation. You can probably get away with a slight degree of augmentation without the need for adjusting the projection of your tip. However, you should be open minded enough to ask any consulting surgeon you go to if he would do anything else. You might be surprised to learn that other changes (big or small) could be done at the same time, which would enhance the results.

Dorsal Nasal Implant
A low bridge of the nose is common in African and Asian noses. It can be corrected easily with a dorsal nasal graft. The graft can be from the own cartilage or it can be a silicone implant that is pre-made and preshaped and gives excellent elevation.  The procedure is relatively quick.  He can be performed under local anesthesia in most patients.
