I inquired about microneedling for undereye wrinkles, but was uncertain if I was a good candidate bc I have sensitive skin. I was told that anyone can do it and there is no downtime. I’m very red, and it doesn’t seem to be dissipating at all. In addition, after the procedure, I read more online and it said you shouldn’t do botox beforehand but I had it 1 week ago. One of the procedures also seems to have caused major under eye/cheek bags that I did not used to have...

Answer: Microneedling Hello. Thank you for your question. Whoever told you that you would not have downtime from microneedling was incorrect. Having redness and peeling is normal for 1-3 days post procedure. If you do have extremely sensitive skin, you may take longer to heal. Botox a week prior should not be a problem with microneedling. You just do not want to have your Botox done the same day as the procedure.

Answer: Inflammation after Microneedling Combining microneedling with a good, anti-inflammatory growth-factor serum can enhance the results and significantly shorten the down-time.If you were treated with PRP, this could have caused your excessive inflammation. There are now much better products to use during micro-needling than PRP because PRP is strongly pro-inflammatory which is not necessarily a good thing. In my office, we do all our micro-needling treatments using the ProCell Therapies system which contains a serum that is specially made for this purpose, containing high concentrations of growth factors derived from human bone marrow stem cells which are anti-inflammatory. This causes more rapid healing with significantly less inflammation post procedure. Stem cells secrete growth factors and cytokines that modulate inflammation downward while providing pro-healing bio-signals. There is accumulating evidence that downtime, inflammation, swelling and discomfort are all reduced using bone marrow derived cytokine products.
