I inquired about microneedling for undereye wrinkles, but was uncertain if I was a good candidate bc I have sensitive skin. I was told that anyone can do it and there is no downtime. I’m very red, and it doesn’t seem to be dissipating at all. In addition, after the procedure, I read more online and it said you shouldn’t do botox beforehand but I had it 1 week ago. One of the procedures also seems to have caused major under eye/cheek bags that I did not used to have...
Answer: Redness, swelling, and burning after microneedling It is hard to say for certain, but I don't see anything worrisome about the pictures. Swelling around the eyes can happen with this procedure. It should subside in another couple days. If things worsen, you should see your provider. Redness should be better after 48 hours. Infection, irritation from topicals are things which can occur after microneedling. Most providers are very casual about this procedure and don't abide by sterile technique and use products that weren't meant to penetrate the skin as deeply as what occurs after microneedling. It has been said that the penetration of topicals increases over 50x times after microneedling or ablative lasers.

Answer: Microneedling and redness Thanks for your question. We perform a lot of microneedling in my office and we don't tell patients there is "no down time". Some people react more strongly and some people just get a bit pink for a few days. It all depends on the agressiveness of the treatment and how sensitive your skin is. I've personally had microneedling, and for me it is worth the few days of looking a bit scary to have excellent improvement in my skin tone, firmness and texture. Microneedling is an excellent alternative to laser for folks with low tolerance to the heat or skin types that are darker and would have a risk of hyperpigmentation from laser treatment. I hope by now you are fully healed and love your results! Follow up with your board certified dermatologist if you continue to have any issues with the treatment.

Answer: Microneedling downtime Hello and thank you for your question and photos. I am sorry that you were told there is no downtime with microneedling. Microneedling is a controlled injury to the skin that stimulates collagen production, smooths, tightens, evens out pigments, texture, improves scarring and pores. Microneedling done with PRP is usually 3-4 days of down time. By looking at your photos, what you are experiencing is common. Follow your post care instructions and let the skin heal. No need to worry about having your microneedling done 1 week after Botox. You would not want to microneedle the skin the same day after your botox injections. Hope this helps!

Answer: Microneedling Hello. Thank you for your question. Whoever told you that you would not have downtime from microneedling was incorrect. Having redness and peeling is normal for 1-3 days post procedure. If you do have extremely sensitive skin, you may take longer to heal. Botox a week prior should not be a problem with microneedling. You just do not want to have your Botox done the same day as the procedure.

Answer: Inflammation after Microneedling Combining microneedling with a good, anti-inflammatory growth-factor serum can enhance the results and significantly shorten the down-time.If you were treated with PRP, this could have caused your excessive inflammation. There are now much better products to use during micro-needling than PRP because PRP is strongly pro-inflammatory which is not necessarily a good thing. In my office, we do all our micro-needling treatments using the ProCell Therapies system which contains a serum that is specially made for this purpose, containing high concentrations of growth factors derived from human bone marrow stem cells which are anti-inflammatory. This causes more rapid healing with significantly less inflammation post procedure. Stem cells secrete growth factors and cytokines that modulate inflammation downward while providing pro-healing bio-signals. There is accumulating evidence that downtime, inflammation, swelling and discomfort are all reduced using bone marrow derived cytokine products.
