I prefer to use an abdominal binder immediately after surgery for a tummy tuck, and my patients usually switch into a faja 1-2 weeks after surgery, after the drains are out. My only word of caution would be regarding using an abdominal binder after a tummy tuck AND lipo to the abdomen and flanks at the SAME time. The liposuction already compromises the blood flow to the incision, and that combined with a tight abdominal binder can cause death of the skin and major healing problems. It thankfully has never happened to me because I avoid binders in these type of cases. I have seen it happen to other surgeons, and it can be a distressing and difficult complication. Hope this information helps.
Speak with your surgeon about their specific recommendations. After a tummy tuck with liposuction I use a binder for the first week. I then have my patients wear a garment for an additional two weeks. They can then wear something that's more comfortable, like Spanx, for the next three weeks. At the six week mark they are done with compression.
Some surgeons do not use garments, and others recommend them. I prefer a compression garment rather than a binder for lipo.
I put my patients in compression and binder right after surgery. I do a great number of #weightloss patients therefore their #tummytuck includes a #monsplasty. This area swells and requires compression from day 1
Most patients benefit from a binder initially after surgery because it is adjustable and helps support the abdomen after tummy tuck. Also, if you have drains placed and wear a compression garment, it would press the drains into your skin and cause pain. Once the drains come out, then I typically switch my patients from a binder to a compression garment. Ask your PS for details.
