The answer is "Yes" but with some warnings.The upper teeth interdigitate and overlap the lower teeth. We have much more control of things with doing both arches at the same time, but also brackets may break off due to the upper teeth hitting them. Also, it is common to use the upper teeth for leverage on the lower teeth.Usually, if only one arch is done, it is best to do the upper.  It is best to ask an orthodontist if that is even an option for YOU, as each case is different.  Just because it could be done with one patient does not mean it can/should be done with another.

Sharyn, thank you for your great question. You certainly can get braces only for the bottom teeth. In my experience though you would be limiting yourself and a doctor who will be doing your treatment to less optimal results in most cases. Lower teeth are usually bonded or limited by the postion of the upper teeth. That in turn determines how much of movement of the lower teeth we can get WITHOUT moving upper teeth.My advise is ask your treating doctor at the consultation time about  pros and cons of getting braces only on the lower teeth.

This depends on the case. If you have one or two teeth out of line on the bottom and no issues with your bite, braces on the bottom teeth only may be a good idea. If you have any teeth out of place on the top also and any bite issues, it is probably be a better idea to do braces on both the top and the bottom. Today's clear braces are extremely aesthetic and blend in nicely with the color of your teeth. It is best to see your local Orthodontist for an evaluation and he/she can do a complete exam to determine what treatment is best for you.
