6.5 months after Tummy Tuck, I have a severe burning/pulling sensation on one side of my pubic area. Is this normal?

Thank you for your question. You most likely have some thickened scar tissue or nerve irritation in that area. Conservative management such as massage and Kenalog injection usually resolves the matter. If it persists pass 1 year time frame, you may consider surgical excision of the scar tissue to improve your symptoms. It's best to have a thorough discussion with your plastic surgeon.

In most cases there is little pain by 6 months after a tummy tuck.  It sounds like you are on the right track by seeking medical attention including some diagnostic imaging, and hopefully you can arrange another assessment with your plastic surgeon.

Thank you for your question.I'm sorry to hear that you're having discomfort after your procedure.  What you describe suggests that you may have either a neuroma or entrapment of one of your abdominal sensory nerves.  A neuroma is what occurs when a nerve grows or heals in an unusual or abnormal pattern - the nerve endings grow back on themselves and become very sensitive (often painful) to any touch or stimulation.  A nerve entrapment is when a nerve gets squeezed - by scar tissue, surrounding structures, etc - and becomes sensitive and irritable as well.  The burning sensation is the giveaway symptom.  While some of this "neuropathic pain" may resolve spontaneously, and some may improve with medications, many require some type of peripheral nerve surgery to correct.I would recommend that you see your plastic surgeon to discuss the possible causes of your symptoms.  You may also wish to pursue a second opinion with a plastic surgeon who specializes in peripheral nerve surgery - you can find one through the American Society for Peripheral Nerve.Best wishes.

This may be a nerve irritation after surgery and usually gets better. See your plastic surgeon. In some cases, an injection may be useful. If it does not resolve, a minor exploration may be done. 

I have a suspicion that you might have a neuroma of one of the sensory nerves. You have some nerves that go to your skin that are purposefully divided during the operation. Sometimes, other nerves like the ilioinguinuinal or iliohypogastric are injured during the operation. I have treated this in patients with post c section pain as well as post abdominoplasty. A physical exam from your surgeon is indicated. There are medical treatments and surgical procedures which can help if this proves to be your diagnosis. I wish you well.
