Is it possible to lighten the color of my lips with chemical peels? (Photo)

Question

My lips used to be pink. But due to wrong use of lip products they have darkened. Is it possible to lighten the color with chemical peels? Or is there any other treatment I can opt for?

The mucosa of the lips is very delicate, as it has only a very thin dermis. When you peel, the regeneration comes from skin appendages (hair follicles, oil glands) that are absent in th mucosa of the lips. Your pigmentation may be due to excessive melanocyte pigmentation. You may want to try depigmenting creams that use hydroquinone. They take time to work, but I would use that instead of a peel.

Chemical peels can be hazardous when applied on the lips as the lip has a very thin epidermal layer also the skin mucosa junction is difficult to avoid while application of peels .peels may inadvertently cause burns .creams containing mandelic acid and glycolic acid may be used to lighten the outer surface of the lips. I would not totally rule out the benefits of a chemical peel on the lips ,but you must see a plastic surgeon and get a mild peel done at the plastic surgeons clinic under supervision.
