How long should discomfort last after temporary crown place for cracked tooth?

Question

I had a temporary crown placed yesterday in an attempt to treat a cracked tooth (after a failed attempt at a filling a couple days prior). I no longer have any cold/heat sensitivity or pain on pressing/biting, but that part of my jaw is still in a decent amount of pain, requiring advil regularly. Is this normal? If so, how long should it last. I'm trying to figure out how much I put up with before I give up and do the root canal...

Hi:There might be nerve damage due to the cracked tooth.  I would have the nerve tested to make sure it is ok.  Otherwise, your pain should subside in 7-10 days.Best,Dr. Maddahi

It is great that you are having no sensitivity to temperature or pressure on your temporary crown. I am wondering since you have had injections into the same area in a few days time then that may be the cause of the aching. I would give it at least 7-10 days time to see if that improves. Your pain does not sound like it is tooth related. Of course, check back with your dentist for his/her input. All the best.
