Can I put gold crowns over a root canal instead of a white crown?

I am going to have a root canal done through the backside of my front teeth (8 & 9). I don't want crowns. Would it be okay to put permanent golds on them? Instead of crowns.

Gold crowns can be definitely placed on back teeth, and in actuality it can be kinder to your bit than white porcelain crowns!Since you had a root canal in some instances depending on how much healthy tooth structure is left, you can even ask your dentist to place gold inlay or onlay! to conserve more tooth structure!

In short, yes gold crowns are still, in my opinion, very good restorations. I have seen them last up to 40 years in well cared for mouths. They will not break. I still use them in patients who have really hard bites that porcelain crowns will not survive. They do cost a bit more, maybe $200 more than porcelain but over time it pays for itself in longevity and comfort. All the best to you.
