Is there a way to reduce keloid scars after breast reduction surgery? (photo)

Question

I am a 47 year old very pale white woman and my skin forms keloid when I have a large cut or injury. I had breast reduction surgery 14 months ago and now have 12" long keloids under each breast. For the 14 months since surgery I have used Biocorneum twice daily, had multiple injections of Kenalog, performed daily scar massage, used Embrace active scar defense sheets for 2 weeks solid with no improvement at all. I had scar revision surgery but the keloids reformed. Is there anything else to try?

Keloid scars are characterized by their growth potential and increased degree of inflammation within the skin. Unlike non-inflamed scars, keloids have the potential for growth beyond the original footprint of injury. Some keloids will require surgical intervention as an initial step for treatment.

Hi! Sorry to hear this is happening. I'm happy to see you used Embrace! I would suggest meeting with your surgeon and asking about laser therapy. Perhaps your surgeon has an esthetican on staff that could help you with some type of laser treatment. Good luck to you!

Thank you for your question. We have found that the scar recovery gel by SkinMedica is very helpful at reducing the redness in a scar and application twice daily with a light massage certainly helps with smoothing the surface of the scar. You may also be a good candidate for Microneedling with PRP this is another technique we have found beneficial to patients with keloid scars. I would ask your plastic surgeon about both of these options to see what is best for you. Good luck in your recovery!
