Prednisone after ETT and Lipo?

I am 20 days post op extended TT and Lipo. I have been healing wonderfully. My only complaint is that I am suffering from terrible sciatica that keeps me up at night. I saw an ortho who prescribed me a 9-day regimine of prednisone. Can I take that now? I’m on no other meds anymore.

Thank you for sharing your question and congratulations on your recovery!  Depending on the dosing of the prednisone I would discuss its administration with your surgeon.  At nearly three weeks out I would hazard your incisions are well on their way to healing, making it safe to take the prednisone, but consider supplementing your Vitamin A intake to help negate the steroid's effects on healing.  Hope this helps.

High dose or chronic steroid use can have a detrimental effects on wound healing, however a short course at this juncture should not be a problem.  Steroids are sometimes indicated immediately after certain procedures.  You likely have the added benefit of more comfortable mobilization, which will decrease your potential for blood clots.  Leg pain after a tummy tuck can also be an indication that you have a blood clot, so this needs to be ruled out with certainty. Discuss this with your plastic surgeon. Best wishes.
