Toomuch compression can compromise blood flow to your skin causing skin necrosis.If there is not enough blood flow getting to all the layers of skin, areas ofyour skin can turn a dark color in the first few days after surgery, then theseareas of skin may slough off leaving a wound. Too much compression can be dueto tight fitting garments or wearing an abdominal binder too tight. We give allof our patients foam pads for their flank area to help protect their skin fromthe garments and abdominal binder. We also remind our patients not to pulltheir abdominal binders too tight examine their skin every day in the mirror,performing 360 degree turns to see all angles. Closer follow up with our patients also help manage and even presentcomplications. We see patients 1 day and 1 week post operatively.
