Belly button healing weird after Tummy Tuck. Any suggestions? (photos)

Question

I had an abdominoplasty a little over 3 weeks ago and I continue to be concerned about my belly button. At my follow-ups they have said that it's just healing slowly, but then today I noticed this white spot that looks like it opened up. I emailed the picture to my surgeon's office, but since it's the weekend I was hoping to get some feedback sooner.

It is indeed best to follow up with your surgeon but in the mean time, use over the counter Bacitracin Zinc ointment with a bandaid and wash the area normally with soap and water. Change the bandaids at least twice a day. We generally recommend avoiding Neosporin since most patients develop an allergic reaction to it within a few days.When we see any delayed healing we usually prescribe Silvadene cream and this nicely facilitates your healing. Your surgeon will advise you when you follow up with him. Best of luck to you.

That should still heal fine. Keep it clean with soap and water and use a little antibacterial ointment.

It is not unusual for people to have some healing issues with regards to their belly button. Your condition does not look concerning. It will almost certainly be just fine, but it may take slightly longer than usual. Certainly see your plastic surgeon this week but I do not feel that there is anything to be worried about.

It does look like you are having some incision break down (dehisence) around the belly button.  This can happen after a tummy tuck as the blood supply in this area can be compromised.  Keep the are clean with soap and water and apply an antibacterial ointment, such as Neosporin, ointment twice daily.  Let your surgeon know what is happening and get in to see him/her ASAP.  Hopefully, with good local wound care this area should heal with time.  Best wishes, Dr. Lepore.
