Having trouble sleeping on a 45 degree angle post op due to intense back pain. Is this normal? Compression band related? (Photo)

Question

I am one week and a couple days post op. I Am 5'6 and 120 pounds. I had 425cc round silicone implants placed via the crease under the breast. I've been sleeping propped up with pillows on a 45 degree angle but I can't seem to get comfortable without my back being in pain. My lower back really hurts the more propped up I a And then my upper back hurts the more flat I try to lay down. Is this normal? I also notice that wearing the compression band makes back pain worse. Any suggestions?

Thank you for the questions and photos.  The back pain you are experiencing is not uncommon so soon after surgery.  The added pressure from the compression band will cause some degree of pain, so find the pressure that is snug and offers support but that will not cause pain.  All the best,Dr. JSB

Hi,Yes, back pain is common after breast surgery due to positioning and being tense. Try propping up your knees a bit as well when laying in bed or on the couch at 45 degrees. I also recommend that the compression band not bee too tight- only gentle support.  Let your Plastic Surgeon know and see what they recommend. All the best

Hello bmg87. Yes, it is common to have lower back pain from sleeping at 45 degrees after breast implants surgery. Breast bands increase pressure and pain. Ask your PS when you can lay flatter. Best, Dr. ALDO.

You have a wonderful result! Back pain is not uncommon after BA. The breast band should apply light pressure and not be a source of pain for you. Additionally, find a position that is most comfortable for you and then ask your PS if its OK with them. Try supporting your knees with a blanket or pillow. Good luck and be well.
