I'm getting my breasts done in Cali Colombia. Is it mandatory to get a breast exam in my country prior to going to Colombia?

For young patients under 40 without any family history of breast cancer, typically no breast imaging is required.
I would seek an in-person evaluation by the Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, in order to discuss your goals and concerns for the best cosmetic results.

This is a question for your surgeon. Each surgeon has his/her own protocol. A mammogram will be ordered by your surgeon if needed. Best wishes!

It is not recommended for any healthy female under the age of 40 to obtain any breast imaging unless there are significant risk factors for breast related malignancy and/or breast cancer.

It depends on your age. If you’re over 40 it’s not a bad idea to get a mammogram. As to whether your surgeon requires it. Some do some don’t. Call their office to ask

Your breast health is generally an important part of the preoperative screening process. This is something that is typically discussed during the consultation. You need to discuss this with your surgeon to determine what his or her recommendations are. Best wishes.

You may want to reach out to the surgeon there and see if any breast testing is needed prior to surgery. However, it is always best to have surgery in your are so you can have follow up care, especially if a problem develops.

Typically if you are under 40 and have no family history of breast cancer it is not necessary to have imaging done. I encourage you though to confirm with your surgeon and breast health specialist on what is recommended in your situation.

If you are younger than 40, have no family history of breast cancer, and have no breast symptoms then I usually do not require my patients to have any breast imaging prior to breast implant surgery. If you have any concerns, you can always see your primary care doctor or gynecologist for a breast exam to put your mind at ease. Good luck with the surgery.

I do not require any of my breast patients to have preoperative breast evaluations. I feel women should be doing monthly self breast exams, and follow the American Cancer Society guidelines on mammograms.
