2 months post op Breast Augmentation. I feel like my hormone levels have changed. Can surgery cause changes in hormones?

I am experiencing the same sort of symptoms I did while breast feeding. Oily hair, acne and body odor. I am taking a mini pull for birth control and that has not changed. I also started getting my period again immediately after surgery as well. Since being on the mini pill I was never getting my period until post surgery. Thanks for your time.

Hi KP,Keep your surgeon in the loop, as well as your doctor who has you on the pill.  Many, many patients report a change in their periods, either more or less, following surgeries of all types.  I am not sure if you had anesthesia and were asleep for the procedure.  General anesthesia causes immediate and profound effects on hormone balance, and so does the general stress of surgery. Sometimes the stress of surgery can change from levels. This can change women's menstrual cycles. Taking caused periods to become irregular and heavy or it can stop them altogether. If you're having breakthrough bleeding on a contraceptive it most likely is related to surgical/recovery stress but I would error on the side of seeing your OB/GYN as soon as possible.

The stress of surgery can cause hormonal problems but this would be thought to only be temporary and short lived.  For the symptoms you are having I would recommend starting with your GYN for an investigation of this problem.

It is very unusual to experience hormonal changes that extend for two months after having breast implants placed.  You should follow up with your OB/GYN or primary care physician to investigate the cause.
