Swelling one week after Smart Lipo that wasn't there the day before. Compression garment to blame? (photos)

Hi and thank you for your question. It is not unusual to have swelling one week post procedure. The more active you are the more swelling you will have. It will subside with time. Your garment should feel tight but not uncomfortable. Check with your surgeon that it is the correct size for you, Best of luck!

It's likely the natural swelling process, which can last 3 to 6 months after Smart Lipo. You should begin to notice gradual improvements in your body shape and swelling over the next weeks and months. A compression garment should be tight, but not uncomfortable. If you still have questions about the specific garment you’re wearing now, contact your cosmetic surgeon’s office or bring it with you on your next visit. Good luck with your continued results.

I would recommend having your new garment checked by the physician or staff for tightness and effectiveness. Swelling can vary from day to day depending on several factors, but especially your activity level and fluid intake (more the better). The lumps likely represent the forming of deep bruising which is normal and will disappear in time.

Congratulations
on your recent procedure...The procedure of liposuction is an
"insult" to the soft tissues, resulting in swelling which will
initially totally obscure the operative result. It will tend to "come and go", depending upon your position, ambient temperature and even barometric pressure! 60-80% of the swelling should subside within the first 6 weeks, with the remainder slowly subsiding over 6-12 months.
The
purpose of a compression garment is to prevent bleeding and to control
swelling. We usually recommend its use for the first 4-6 weeks after the procedure. It should be snug but not uncomfortable.
Your early postoperative course appears normal. Continue
followup care with your plastic surgeon.

you will continue to improve for 6 months. i think it is fine to just do the massage on yourself. it certainly is fine to get lymphatic massage but it is clearly not necessary. Some of my patients really like it. Those smaller lumps that are new, will go away with time. you appear to have excellent skin tone, so in your case, i don't believe that wearing a garment beyond 5-7 days, accomplishing anything but it certainly does no harm.Since this is not facial surgery, i would always recommend that a board certified PLASTIC SURGEON be used, rather than a different specialist. david berman md
