I am 4 months post op from breast reduction surgery. I feel like my wound is just getting bigger and bigger. My surgeon is trying everything from xeroform with cordizone. Is there anyway to minimize this wound?
Answer: I would like a second opinion: Is there anything to help speed up the healing process? Hello, thank you for your question. I am sorry to hear you are having a bad time with healing, swelling usually takes about 6 weeks to subside you should follow up with your PS for further advise, every surgeon has different post op care instructions, best of luck!

Answer: Chronic Wound Cortizone has not place in wound healing, I hope you are mistaken about that. Although wound vacs are popular, it would be difficult to apply to the breast. At this point, you should be taken back to the operating room for debridement of the wound down to healthy tissue, and then placement of a partial thickness skin graft. This will allow the wound to heal and the skin graft to contract, and then you can have subsequent surgery later for a definitive cosmetic outcome.

Answer: Open wound in the Apex point of a breast reduction It is not uncommon the apex point where three areas of skin flaps come together. Several things can cause this to disrupt. Too much tension in the breast lift repairs on the skin in this area. Inadequate blood supply in the skin such as in smokers or diabetics. Too rough handling of the tissues during surgery. These can all cause tissue necrosis. However there can be a mechanical component to this. With excessive movement of the arm it puts mechanical tension on the skin flaps and this cause the skin edges to disrupt. The quickest way to heal this is to put Silvadene on the wound at least 2 times a day. Silvadene is water based and will allow the wound to heal quicker and promote new skin growth. Clean it daily and put your right arm in a sling to reduce further disruption of the wound. The wound will contract and new skin will grow and re-epithelialize. Xerofoam and Cortisone is not recommended.
