The redness after shave excision of a mole usually reaches a peak by 6-8 weeks, which is the height of the inflammatory phase of healing.  After that, it should begin to settle down and fade, assuming a color much closer to the surrounding skin.  I recommend using silicone gel twice daily starting at 3 weeks after the procedure (Skin Medica Dermatix and Strataderm are two brands I offer my patients).  The silicone gel should be massaged into the area for at least 2-3 months or until you are happy with the appearance of the scar.  Also, don't forget to use sunscreen over the area as any scar may become more lightly or darkly pigmented with unprotected sun exposure, especially within the first year.  If the scar is slightly raised still, laser or PRP with microneedling are viable options.
