If miraDry didn’t work the first time, would a second round just be a waste of money?

Doing the second round would just be a waste of money? What do you think? It got worst after the miradry treatment. I swear more easily now and it smells also. What other options are out there for getting rid of armpit sweats? Thanks

I haven't heard of worsening of sweat after a MiraDry procedure. However, it is not uncommon to need a second treatment about 6 months after the first treatment as a lot of the statistics from the company are based on 2 treatments. If you choose not to get another treatment, Botox can also be injected every 3-6 months to help with excessive sweating.

We've found that with miraDry, most people notice a significant reduction in underarm sweat, hair and odor (on average around 60-80%) with one treatment. Some it's completely gone, and others need a second treatment. The odds that anyone would need a 3rd are extremely rare. miraDry is a great procedure and our patients love it!

It is unusual for you to have worse sweating after MiraDry. I have not seen this happen to my patients, but we always treat at level 5. I would suggest you discuss your concerns with your treating physician and consider having an iodine-starch test to assess where your remaining sweat glands are located.Alternative treatments for hyperhydrosis include botox and special deodorants.

We have yet to have an unhappy patient with the effectiveness of MiraDry.  Typically we do one treatment but have done a second treatment on maybe 5% of our patients in the last 2 years.  There are specific settings that can be changed to increase the effectiveness.  I would followup with your practitioner first and schedule a second treatment, hopefully at a reduced cost.  Yes, there are alternatives such as Botox.  However, Botox needs to be injected every 3-6 months to remain effective.

Hi, thank you for your question! I would recommend having the second treatment done. The second treatment will not be a waste of money but will beneficial to results. Other options for hyperhydrosis are botox for the underarms but this would have to be repeated about every three months. The amount of units all depends on the size of your armpit. I would recommend following up with your provider and having an in person consultation with a certified injector.

Hi and thanks for your question.  It is not uncommon to need a second treatment for hyperhidrosis.  The need for a second procedure is a little more common in men than women and the vast majority of my patients are highly satisfied with the treatment and I haven't had anyone complaining of worsening.  Good luck with your decision.
