Can Kybella be used on the chin versus under the chin? Pointy chin/ fat pad reduction? (Photo)

Question

Hello, I’ve attached some pictures to show my chin... it’s pointy from inherited family traits with some major overbite. I’ve always had a pointy chin and I’m fine with that but if I could just reduce the amount of protrusion even slightly I would be more comfortable with my profile view. My question is I see kybella being used for under the chin.. could it also be used for a chin like mine where I would prefer it on the actual chin? Thank you!

this looks more muscular or anatomical (bone) than it is fat. kybella only works on fat.  I suggest a formal consult to see if this can be helped, it may need a surgical option.
However, there are many options for jawline contouring:
1) implants
2) fat or filler injections
3) botox for masseter hypertrophy or platysma muscle/neck bands
4) ThermiRF, Thermage or Ultherapy skin tightening
5) PDO Novathreads or instalift threads for lifting

Kybella was approved only for submental fat reduction. However Dr’s use it off label . In your case I’m not sure Kybella would help since the protrusion of your chin seems to be more due to bones than fat.Check with a facial plastic surgeon .

Thank you for your pictures and questions. To answer your question, you need to understand what Kybella actually does. It is an injectable fat dissolver, so it is meant to dissolve the fat in the neck in front of the platysma muscle. Most patients who have problems with the area under the chin have excess fat there. In your case, your chin protrusion likely has nothing to do with fat, so Kybella would serve no purpose there. Your chin protrusion is likely due to your bony anatomy (not due to a fat problem) and to repair this would require a surgical procedure. See a local board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options.Hope this helps!

Dear Jessicafromcali,Kybella typically takes 3 to 5 treatments to work. This is why I've stopped carrying Kybella in my office.  I recommend neck liposuction more often then any injectable procedure for the neck now. It provides superior results gives me more control over the area than any injectable.  It also costs about the same as what you paid for your first kybella session. The liposuction can be done under local while awake in the office and recovery is about the same as kybella.Daniel Barrett, MD
